Toshiba has been showing off a range of new technologies that it hopes will cut the environmental impact of computing.
Speaking at CES in Las Vegas, the company said it had developed a Super Charge Battery (SCiB) which will last longer than conventional batteries and will charge faster than normal to help mobile workers.
"SciB is Toshiba's breakthrough rechargeable battery, and offers excellent safety, long life and rapid charging," said the company.
"Prototypes of notebook PCs integrating a SciB point the way to improved battery life - the SciB can be charged 6,000 times - and to greater convenience and efficiency, with a target recharge time of 90 per cent in just 10 minutes."
The company has also been extolling its environmental credentials, pointing out that it has removed cadmium, lead and mercury from its Portégé A600, R600 and M750 computers.
Toshiba is also building green thinking into new product development. Each new idea is evaluated for resource conservation, use of toxics and end of life reuse.
Other devices on display include the company's first 512GB solid state drive and concept designs for future internet tablets, including a 5mm thick card-sized viewer.
