Check Point has issued a set of updates which correct a compatibility issue with the latest Microsoft update.
The security firm has posted new versions of its ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite, Pro, Antivirus, Anti-Spyware and Basic Firewall offerings.
The updates correct an error caused by the Microsoft Patch Tuesday update released on 8 July.
One of the four bulletins addressed a flaw in the Windows DNS component, but also resulted in an error which prevented ZoneAlarm users from accessing the internet.
Many ZoneAlarm customers, including several vnunet.com readers, were left unable to connect to the internet and were forced to uninstall the security update or temporarily lower the security level on their ZoneAlarm applications.
Check Point promised yesterday that a patch was in the works, advising users to keep an eye on the site for the updates.
By Thursday evening updated versions of all five applications had been posted, along with a list of recommended actions for those who do not wish to install the updates.
All five of the updated applications can be downloaded directly from the Check Point support site.
Do you agree?
Catch22
I was caught in catch22 situation where i could not access the internet and therefore did not know that there was a clash between updates - like good boy i am on automatic updates. Rang my ISP who said it was probably my router at fault! Perhaps either Microsoft or Checkpoint could inform ISP,s in future

Microsoft error
I was caught up in this error and contacted my ISP to be told after half an hour on phone to contact Microsoft.Having phoned them to be told I would need to pay £45 for technical support so didn't bother and looked up Computer Active website and lo and behold the first thing I saw was the article about Microsoft error. Why couldn't Microsoft have told me about this on phone.
Thank you once again Computer Active - keep up the good work.

Patch Victim
I too was suddenly without access with no idea what happened. I have a cable modem so called the company. After a new splitter and modem were installed, it was discovered to be a program error! What a nightmare! The irony? Zone Labs put a warning on their website. How many of us go there all the time? I called the cable company back and told them what the problem was and they knew about it but hadn't bothered to pass this on to their techs. Customer service....does anyone remember what that is??
