Apple iPhone users will be able to access Skype from tomorrow, in a move which could help to slash call charges.
The internet telephony firm today confirmed that a Skype for iPhone application will be made available from Apple's App Store from 31 March. IPhone users will be able to call other Skype users free of charge, thanks to the unlimited internet access available with an iPhone contract.
Skype refused to disclose any other details ahead of the announcement, but chief operating officer Scott Durchslag was quoted in a Reuters report as saying: "The number-one request we get from customers is to make Skype available on iPhone. There's a pent-up demand."
The application will be free to download, according to reports, but calls to non-Skype phones will incur a charge. The application could also allow users to access phone numbers in their iPhone contacts book, thereby avoiding the time-consuming task of duplicating phonebook lists.
Skype has already announced Skype for Nokia phones, as well as handsets based on Google's Android operating system and Windows Mobile.
Do you agree?
What about the Ipod Touch
Ok, we all know that the Ipod Touch doesn't have 3g, but will this app be able to implement a headset with microphone attached to work with the ipod touch to allow Skype calls when in a wifi area. It's abit farfetched but I can see a personal advantage on my behalf if this is the case. Obviously I'm assuming the answer is no until a reply otherwise as the iphone is the touch screen phone. Ipod Touch is merely the touch screen ipod. So what's going to happen??

I hope the app will work on the iPod touch too! There is a headphone/mic combo that's supposed to work...

Skype on iPhone
All very nice and all but has anyone else fallen foul of what I think were massive security holes in the iPhone client at its launch?
I downloaded the client, logged on and within 24hrs my account had been utterly hijacked. I reported it to Skype immediately but they did nothing for nearly two weeks by which time the fraudsters were trying to relieve me of a considerable sum of money!
Use with extreme caution!
