Update: YouTube coming to mobiles

Subscribers to US mobile network Verizon will soon be able to access YouTube content on their phones for a flat monthly fee.

Verizon subscribers will be provided with a sampling of the most popular Youtube movies. While the service itself is free, it requires a $15 monthly subscription to the operator's 3G EV-DO wireless network technology, dubbed V Cast, and a compatible handset.

Verizon is co-owned by Verizon Communications and Vodafone.

The deal marks Youtube's first move into mobile content. The world's largest online video service is expected to unveil additional mobile content deals in the future, but said that Verizon will have exclusive access to its videos for a limited time.

Financial details of the deal weren't disclosed.

Google acquired Youtube last month for $1.65bn in stock.
