Microsoft's Bing claimed 11.5 per cent of the US search market in February

Microsoft's Bing search engine continues to pick up ground on its rivals, according to the latest figures from comScore.

The research firm reported that Bing's share of US searches rose 0.2 per cent last month, while Yahoo's dropped 0.2 per cent.

Bing claimed 11.5 per cent of the market compared to Yahoo's 16.8 per cent. Google retained its dominant position with 65.5 per cent.

The figures show that US citizens performed 14.5 billion searches in February, 9.5 billion of which were through Google. Yahoo processed 2.4 billion searches, and Microsoft 1.7 billion.

Rounding out the top five were Ask with 540 million searches and AOL with 358 million.

The report shows a continuing trend of Bing eating into Yahoo's share. Six months ago, Yahoo held 18.8 per cent of the market to Microsoft's 9.4 per cent.
