HP has announced a new cloud computing service for enterprises. HP Cloud Assure will provide support and security tools to companies seeking to move to hosted services.
Cloud Assure will comprise three separate components. The Application Security Center will perform automated security testing for cloud computing code, while the Performance Center will monitor speed and bandwidth analysis and a Business Availability Center component will monitor uptime and performance issues.
HP hopes that the move will help companies migrate to web-based applications with greater ease. Cloud Assure will form part of HP's software-as-a-service (SaaS) portfolio.
"There is no question that cloud computing is providing a new set of opportunities for businesses, but it presents new risks as well," said HP SaaS vice president Scott Kupor.
"HP is uniquely positioned to help ensure that our customers can leverage the promise of the cloud, while removing risk from the equation."
The move comes just one day after the Open Cloud Manifesto named its initial roster of member companies. HP was not listed among those supporting the initiative to define general guidelines for cloud computing.
