Application traffic management firm Zeus Technology has released a tool which it claims can boost web performance in the cloud.
Traffic Manager 6.0 will help enterprises ensure that web applications are always running at peak performance, including at times of high demand, and can be used across physical, virtual and cloud IT environments, the firm said.
"The rapid adoption of virtualisation and cloud computing, coupled with rising expectations for more dynamic and available web applications, presents new challenges for the IT department," said Paul Brennan, chief executive at Zeus.
"The latest release from Zeus will enable businesses to cope with the massive growth in demand for web services, which is putting huge demands on web infrastructures. Traffic Manager 6.0 will allow companies to see, manage and control applications across any IT environment, ensuring they are online all the time."
Zeus said that the new release uses diagnostic tools to provide an overview of web traffic and the performance of web applications. Such an overview will let organisations better manage capacity and resources, adding and removing computer power at whim, according to the firm.
Some companies, including the Comic Relief charity, have already used Traffic Manager 6.0 in its beta form.
"With Traffic Manager 6.0 we can manage traffic on our terms and help ensure a balanced, smooth traffic flow even during peak periods like our TV event for Red Nose Day," said Charlotte Melén, web technology manager at Comic Relief.
Traffic Manager 6.0 is available on platforms including Linux, Solaris, VMware, Xen, Oracle and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud.
