Secure authentication firm Imprivata has updated its OneSign product with features designed to improve security without impeding usability.
OneSign 4.5 features enhanced support for virtualised desktops and Windows 7 environments.
Automatic desktop locking is available via the Secure Walk Away feature, which boosts security while reducing the time-consuming process of repeated logging on and off, said the vendor.
Other new features are one-touch roaming and location awareness, which allows application, default printer and user privileges to be transferred instantly to any workstation accessed by a user.
Omar Hussain, president and chief executive at Imprivata, argued that improving security and user productivity are often competing goals.
"As our customers rely increasingly on fast access to digital data to be successful, security and compliance requirements across industries around the world are making access to that data more and more difficult," he said.
"Imprivata OneSign 4.5 is the latest proof that user productivity and IT security do not have to be mutually exclusive."
Alongside the traditional hardware appliance, customers now have the option of deploying OneSign 4.5 as a virtual appliance, the firm said.
Imprivata also announced a tie-up with virtualisation firm VMware to integrate OneSign with VMware's View desktop management service.
The integration will enable secure end-point data access and user roaming desktops with location awareness in virtual desktop environments, said the firm.
