Dell has announced the official UK launch of its Inspiron 11z, which is slated as combining the portability of a netbook with the functionality of a full laptop.
Unveiled in the US a few months back and now available in the UK, the Inspiron 11z is touted as the thinnest and lightest Inspiron ever, at just 1.4kg and with an overall thickness of 25.8mm.
The new Inspiron has an 11.6in high-definition display, and is not much larger or heavier than the popular netbook style of laptops.
However, Dell has based the new model on Intel's consumer ultra-low voltage chips instead of the Atom, with a choice of Celeron 743 or dual-core Pentium SU4100, both clocked at 1.3GHz.
The rest of the specifications include memory up to 4GB, hard drives up to 500GB, and a six-cell battery offering a claimed six hours of use.
Other highlights are a new floating touchpad with multi-touch controls, a keyboard with keys that are 92 per cent of full-size for comfortable typing, plus HDMI video output.
The Inspiron 11z is available in seven colours, with prices starting at £349.
