Apple has announced plans to preview version 3.0 of its iPhone operating system at a special event on 17 March. The company is also expected to unveil a new software development kit.
Few details of the software have been released, but analysts expect the code to include support for video, turn-by-turn directions and possibly support for Flash. Adobe stated at Mobile World Congress this year that it was targeting the smartphone market.
The news comes days after Google announced that it will be releasing a new version of its Android operating system, codenamed Cupcake, in April.
Apple's announcement may be a tactic to jump ahead of Google, as no release date for iPhone 3.0 has been suggested.
Cupcake will include a virtual keyboard to augment the existing hardware one on the T-Mobile G1, as well as support for video and voice recording.
Other expected upgrades include support for Bluetooth stereo headsets, cutting and pasting within the browser and better search capabilities.

iPhone overrated and over valued
I had an iPhone 3G and found it was highly overrated and did not meet my expectations. The G1 however has and is more tuned to my needs. Looking forward to the upgrade.
