Palm has expressed optimism about the long-term future of WebOS, but has remained tight-lipped on any specific plans for the mobile operating system.
Ben Galbraith, director of developer relations at Palm, said during a presentation at the 2010 MobileBeat conference in San Francisco that the company is looking forward to taking advantage of the newfound wealth of resources offered by parent company HP.
"We have always heard people say really great things about WebOS, they just wish that the opportunity was bigger," he said. "Having HP behind us finishes that."
HP said after the $1.5bn merger was finalised that WebOS could make its way into many of the company's enterprise devices, including tablet systems and peripherals.
"You can see that HP has fantastic enterprise reach, so something may happen there," noted Galbraith.
Galbraith declined to reveal any plans for future devices, particularly in the consumer space, other than the planned release of an update for WebOS later this year.
However, he did talk up Palm's platform for developers, pointing to initiatives such as the WebOS plug-in development kit which allows developers to automatically compile C/C++ applications as WebOS-compatible applications.
Palm hopes that the tool will further lure developers to the platform by simplifying the process of porting code to WebOS.
