Oracle has acquired 3D software house Advanced Visual Technology (AVT) in a bid to increase the functionality of its systems geared at the retail sector.
AVT develops 3D visual macro space planning software which allows retailers to collaborate with stores and suppliers to design, plan and view floor space in real time.
Oracle intends to combine AVT's products with its own application suite. AVT's staff and management are expected to join Oracle's retail global business unit.
The combined systems promise to offer increased profits for retailers by improving space allocation and performance monitoring across categories, aisles and departments.
"The combination of Oracle and AVT will create an industry-leading macro space management solution that will maximise profitability through better allocation of selling space," said Duncan Angove, senior vice president and general manager at Oracle Retail.
"This will help enable retailers to gain rapid and profitable ROI from every inch of store space and help Oracle further realise its vision for insight-driven retailing."
The transaction is expected to close in the second half of 2008.
