Convicted spammer Edward 'Eddie' Davidson has escaped from a federal prison camp after serving just five weeks of a 21-month sentence.
Davidson was convicted of sending millions of spam messages promoting penny stocks which he then traded when the price rose. Police estimate that he made over $3m before he was caught.
After his conviction for tax evasion and falsifying email headers Davidson was fined $714,139 and had gold coins and property seized by the authorities. Coincidentally the coins are being auctioned off by the IRS today.
Davidson absconded on Sunday from a minimum security facility in Florence, Colorado.
"He jumped in the car with his wife," Will Cochenour of Lakewood Police told The Rocky Mountain News.
"When they were leaving, he forced her in the car, brought them home and left after a change in clothing. He's still at large."
US marshals are leading the search for Davidson assisted by the FBI, IRS and the Rocky Mountain Safe Streets Task Force.
Do you agree?
Why am I not surprised?
The zero tolerance regime adopted in New York and other cities around the world showed unarguably that people who flout minor rules are also very likely to be committing far more serious crimes as well, the lack of respect for the minor rules being a symptom of a more serious problem.
This guy actually committed several crimes that the courts STILL appear to view as minor when they are not. The fact that he used his wife in his escape also indicates he has other very serious issues.
I think we will be reading more about this character and it'll probably involve firearms.
By the way, drop the "Eddie" bit in the title. That just glorifies what is clearly a damaged human, a rogue. Nicknames are for people that are liked, not psychopaths or villains. The latter like to have nicknames because it makes them feel important and that they have acceptance which could hardly be farther from the truth. Mr Edward Davidson is showing his true colours.

Spammers
Those spammers that are caught should be given a minimum of 5 years prison, have all of their assets seized and banned from ever owning and using any form of computer equipment.

He's dead now.
Unfortunately he took two others with him.

Convicted spammer escapes from prison
Why didn't you, or the authorities, publish a photo of this criminal? Those who lost money (his gains) would certainly like to be able to recognize him on the street, wouldn't they?
