Gamers horrified by Nintendo Wii name

Nintendo has announced that its forthcoming games console will be called Wii. The device was previously known by its Revolution codename.
Pronounced 'we' the new name is "easy to remember regardless of the gamer's language", the company explained in a statement on its website.
"While the codename Revolution expressed our direction, Wii represents the answer. Wii will break down the wall that separates video game players from everybody else. Wii will put people in touch with their games and each other," said Nintendo.
However, gamers on public forums mocked the name. "It's not April Fools or something is it? Wow... yea, lemme get Tony Hawk Pro Skater 17 for the Wii? Weeii? whuuhh?," noted 'SemiMaster' on the GameSpot website.
The discussion on GameSpot took up 165 pages with 20 comments per page.
The Nintendo Wii is scheduled for release later this year. The console will feature a new wireless controller which can sense its position relative to the screen.

It's not a bad name.
In my eyes, Revolution sounds cool, but Wii sounds like a step to the future!

A VERY STUPID NAME
Why did Nintendo change the revoultion name to Wii, What was wrong with the name Revolution. I was thinking of buying a revolution or should i say Wii but now i think i might decide to buy a PS3 unless Nintendo changes the name back to revolution or come up with a better name.

Nintendo still coming in from behind
This name says a lot. Nintendo's management know that their little Wii will not touch the Box, so I think they have been aiming the Wii at the bottom all along :)

what's in a name?
why should a system be judged solely on it's name? it's not only irrational to not buy a system because of it's name, it's a testament to the narrow mindedness of the people who feel that way.

What the hell is a Famicon? Right?
Wii is stupid. Time to go back to the good old days of American Systems having different names than there Japenses counterparts. Wii is fine for Japan, but we want the Revolution here in America.
