Japanese video game developer Square Enix has developed a role-playing game specifically for iPods.
The group behind the popular Final Fantasy series has developed Song Summoner for use with Apple's iPod nano, iPod classic and fifth-generation iPod, making use of the click wheel to drive gameplay.
Several arcade style games are already available for iPods, but Song Summoner is thought to be the first fully-fledged RPG for the media player.
As the game's protagonist, Ziggy, the user will embark on a journey to rescue his brother from the clutches of the Mechanical Militia.
To help defeat enemies in the turn-based tactical battle system, the user can create powerful 'Tune Troopers' which are based on the individual music on the device.
Furthermore, characters in the game will be powered up by listening to the songs used to create them.
Song Summoner is available for download from the iTunes store for £3.99 (€4.99).
The game will not be available for the iPhone or iPod touch, but a range of other titles have been announced specifically for the touch screen devices following today's launch of the iPhone 3G.
