BT Vision scores Premiership football deal

BT's upcoming IP TV service will show matches from 10pm on the day they were played

BT Vision has won the pay-per-view rights to show 242 "near live" FA Premier League football matches every season. 

BT's upcoming television over IP service acquired the rights in a joint bid with BSkyB to show matches from 10pm on the day they were played. 

"This is a landmark moment for sports viewing in the UK as BT Vision customers will have great control, convenience and choice over the games they want to watch without the need for an upfront subscription," said Dan Marks, chief executive at BT Vision.

The three-year deal begins in the 2007/2008 season and will continue until the 2009/2010 season.

BT claimed that this will be the first time football fans will be able to watch full Premiership matches without an upfront television subscription. BT Vision is due to launch in Autumn 2006.

The company has already signed deals with other providers, including a recent movie deal with Steven Spielberg's DreamWorks studio.
