The number of website hostnames running Microsoft's newest operating system, Windows Server 2003, overtook those running on Windows NT4 earlier this month.
According to market watcher Netcraft's latest Web Server Survey, over 1.25 million hostnames are running Windows Server 2003, a 283 per cent increase since August 2003.
A majority of those (534,000) appear to have migrated from Windows 2000, while 272,000 appear to be new installations at new sites.
Interestingly, 56,000 sites also converted to Windows Server 2003 from FreeBSD, and a further 55,000 from Linux as well as 8,000 from Solaris.
