The British Chiropractic Association (BCA) has warned that a form of repetitive strain injury could be hitting UK users of Apple's iPod and other similar media players.
Dubbed 'iPod Finger' the problem affects the fingers of "music-mad consumers who are constantly using the scroll-wheel or buttons on their MP3 players to organise their song library, update playlists and adjust the volume of their favourite artists".
BCA spokesman Dr Carl Irwin said: "Hand-held music machines are extremely popular and users are constantly using small, difficult buttons with the same finger in a repetitive motion.
"The nature of modern technology means that these devices are only going to get smaller and I would not be surprised if hand and finger related injuries become one of the most common repetitive strain injuries that chiropractors treat."
Dr Irwin warned that young people are especially vulnerable since their bones and muscles are still growing and repetitive actions could lead to problems in later life.
The best way to avoid 'iPod Finger' is regularly to stretch the hands and fingers and try to alternate the hand that controls the player, according to the BCA.
Do you agree?
Quack Quack
What won't these people say to get a bit of press exposure! What suckers journalists are to take any notice! And do any iPod users wiggle their tiny controls more often than I click my mouse? They do stop and listen to the music sometimes, you know. Chiropractors? Quack, quack.

bullshit
it sounds to me like this guy just wanted his name in the news... iPod finger my ass. Its stupid people like this who find the negative possibilities in everything, I guess we probably shouldn't wipe our asses because we could sprain a shoulder or wrist! Fucking idiot

i dont believe it
its just giving the ipod a bad reputation by calling it "ipod finger", maybe it is true, but why call it ipod finger when they just said it is also the same in other hand held devices. in my opinion cell phones with text messaging would be worse. calling it ipod finger just fills up headline space and clutters up search engines when people go looking for real ipod info and find this crap.

Un****ing Believeable
First of all . . . it is a commonly known fact that in the medical field, Chiropractors are consiered quacks by pretty much everybody. This includes pharmacists, doctors, and nurses (pretty much anybody licensed by any governing meidcal board i.e. AMA etc.). Second, if you're a kid, and somebody tells you that you're going to get Carpel Tunnel Syndrome from using your IPod, do you really think that that is going to have some kind of phsycholigical impact?? Hell no! Most adults, let alone kids, have no idea what Carpel Tunnel Syndrome or any related illness even is. Third: Wouldn't damage to ones eardrums or auditory canals be more likely from having ear plugs in your ears at high volumes for large chunks of the day?? Or did we skip the important stuff like hearing when we went to Chiropractor school??
