Ruckus Wireless has launched a Wi-Fi tool that it claims will allow companies to better plan wireless deployments by providing a clear view of where the spectrum will be broadcast.
ZonePlanner, launched in conjunction with wireless firm AirMagnet, has been customised for Ruckus customers by linking with the firm's ZoneFlex Smart high-gain directional antenna array access points.
Eddie Felmer, technical director at Ruckus, explained that the tool allows the customisation of inputs to provide a picture of how access point deployments will operate.
"The tool allows firms to use floor plans in a variety of formats, such as JPEG or GIF, and add construction assets, such as indicating what sort of a material a wall is made from, to give a clearer picture of how Wi-Fi coverage will be affected," he said.
"In the past there has been a lot of guesswork with the deployment of access points, but ZonePlanner can far more accurately determine what a firm needs to ensure good Wi-Fi coverage, even during uncompleted builds."
Felmer added that the software can be used to set exclusion zones where Wi-Fi may not be required.
ZonePlanner also provides wireless LAN throughput estimates, automatic access point placement suggestions and signal coverage maps, while reports can be turned into PDF documents for emailing and presentations.
The product is available now priced at £394 for end users, and comes with one year of free support. ZonePlanner will retail through resellers for £140.
