Symantec may stall on web-based service

Symantec has announced that its new web-based security product, which was expected to roll out this year, may now be delayed until March next year.
Enrique Salem, president of consumer products at Symantec, told a financial briefing that the beta would be available in July and the full rollout would depend on the results of that test.
The date change was also followed by a name change for the Symantec service, which has now dropped its working title of Genesis and will officially be called Norton 360.
The news comes in the week that Microsoft launched its long-expected Windows Live OneCare web security service in the US.
Symantec currently has 62 per cent of the market for consumer security products, and its first web-based product is designed to protect that lead.

That 62 per cent market share is worth noting. Given the record of Microsoft when they go after a segement, Symantec will be around 20 percent in three years.
I don't know what's worse; watching Microsoft charge to protect us from their problems or watching Symantec squander the dominant market share they have mishandled.

I love seeing Symantec squandering their market share - this is one company with products which do not deserve the accolades the company bestows on it. Far from it. With one of the worst security suites around, it has ruined more pc's and laptops in our company (and privately) then I care to remember. Although not a MS fan, I cheer the fact that they are at least trying to better their products, rather than trying to increase turnover based on less than satisfactory products housed in a new jacket. And please don't get me started on their idea of customer service....Bye, bye Symantec.

One Care works better than Norton
MS will do well with One Care. It is superior to Norton, which has grown sluggish and prone to viruses turning it off after infection. AVG and Anti-Vir are both superior to Norton. MS, however, has a winner with One Care.

Microsoft security is crap!!!
Norton has been doing this for years and knowing how microsft is who in their right mind would trust Microsoft to protect them? If they were committed to security they would made better products instead of trying to get more money from their customer from selling them crap.

So what if they're 62% of the market
Just because they have a large market share doesn't mean they're the best. I wrote certified letter to Johw Thompson (Symantec's CEO) about a problem I was having with their product after many failed attempts of working with their "tech staff." And guess what he replied. RELOAD! What a joke! Cockroaches cover at least 62% of the globe, but that doesn't mean they're our favorite insect. I hate cockroaches.
