Frontline IT staff could benefit from a new product announced today by Fluke Networks that allows staff to monitor and check Wi-Fi connections, coverage and availability on a handheld device called AirCheck.
The device is aimed at the enterprise space where IT staff are under increasing pressure to cover large Wi-Fi deployments, especially since the ratification of 802.11n for wireless networks and products, the firm said.
Barry Lindsley, network analysis field marketing manager at Fluke, said that the device has been designed to help IT staff who may not have the necessary skills to manage and maintain Wi-Fi networks.
"The AirCheck device meets a previously unmet need for a mobile handheld unit that enables IT professionals to troubleshoot common IT problems quickly and efficiently, in small, medium or large organisations," he said.
Lindsley explained that the device had been designed to offer as efficient a service as possible, and has a load time of three seconds and a battery life of five hours. Data recorded during testing can be saved and stored on a USB for further analysis.
The device is designed to complement Fluke's existing range of Wi-Fi analysis tools geared towards higher-level troubleshooting of network capabilities.
The AirCheck device will be available from the second quarter of this year priced at £1,796. A directional antenna is available to provide more direct RF scanning for £175.

This is good
This kit is brilliant - I had a play with one in our offices and there were 2 access points set to the wrong country!! We saw it in about 30 seconds. Loads of info on the surrounding WiFi. There is an excellent virtual demo at www.aircheckdemo.com
