Microsoft has switched off its 'Get The Facts' Linux-bashing website and replaced it with a less confrontational site that compares server products.
The new Compare site includes features such as a Gartner webcast on system security, a demonstration comparing Linux's script-based management to Windows PowerShell, analyst reports and company case studies.
Ryan Gavin, Microsoft's director of platform strategy, said that customers had increasingly asked for credible third-party information from other clients and industry experts, as well as Microsoft's perspective on platform decisions.
"Compare was designed with these requirements in mind: to provide in-depth information about how Windows, Linux, Unix and mainframe stack up along key attributes," Gavin said in an official statement.
"Given that the Compare site will provide third-party information, 'Get the Facts' will be retired as a destination."
Microsoft had previously been criticised for sponsoring supposedly independent studies on the 'Get the Facts' site that showed the benefits of its products over other platforms.
However, the software manufacturer has not ruled out commissioning third-party research for the Compare site if it felt that customers wanted it.
Do you agree?
Gartner? Objective?
Message of the day: "We're Microsoft; we can pay consultants as much as we like to spread undeserved praise for Microsoft's epically weak and insecure server offerings."

The Server-side & M$
How many times have I read about a Linux server that hasn't needed to be touched for a very long time, usually in the order of months?
How many times have I read about a M$ server that hasn't needed to be touched for a period of time, usually in the order of hours?
What's my point? I wish I knew what it is M$ claims to have that works better in servers?
Why do so many ISP's run Linux? Why do so many hosts run Linux? Just because it's so cheap? Perhaps but that's not the whole story. When you have so many servers running & only one person maintaining them it costs a lot less & not having to update them every day to protect them from the idiots that design worms, viruses etc & the creeps that design spy-ware is a good thing, is it not?
Well then Mr Bill Gates & Mr Steven "I'm gonna f#@&ing kill Google" Ballmer, when are you going to truly compare your offerings?

Advertising
Well, the advertising is not about telling the (whole) truth is it? It is about letting people think their product is best and linux is rubbish. Though this message might be (is) untrue, the message seems to get through. Microsoft is not a software company, but an advertising company.....
