Vodafone offers free internet on Friday

Mobile workers received a boost today after Vodafone announced that webmail and internet browsing will be free for all customers this Friday.

The mobile giant will waive the normal 50p daily flat rate from 12.01am to 23.59pm on 28 August, giving customers the opportunity to access the internet and send and receive emails for free all day.

Customers do not need to do anything to qualify for 'Free Friday', said Vodafone, and should simply click on the Vodafone Live or browser icon in their phone's menu to get started.

The deal follows Vodafone's decision in May to drop international roaming charges during the summer, allowing customers to make international calls for the same cost as a UK call.

The firm also cut the cost of calling abroad from the UK during the period, which is set to come to an end on 31 August.

Vodafone has seen a small rise in fortunes of late, posting positive quarterly results last month, although it appeared to back away from a potential acquisition of ailing rival T-Mobile UK.

Vodafone revenues rose 9.3 per cent year on year from £9.8m to £10.7m in the period.
