IT industry association CompTIA today launched a new independent kitemark designed to allow IT firms to prove their security credentials to customers and employees.
The CompTIA Security Trustmark was developed with the help of industry experts, who identified the most relevant security practices and IT technologies that firms should use when delivering services, said CompTIA.
A broad range of disciplines is covered, including business continuity planning, access management, security awareness and training, personal security, data protection and physical security.
Matthew Poyiadgi, CompTIA's European vice president, said that the new scheme would build on the organisation's industry certifications such as CompTIA Security+.
CompTIA member McAfee welcomed the initiative, arguing that it would increase confidence and enable better security.
"Understanding risk is one of the biggest issues facing organisations today, " said McAfee security analyst Greg Day.
"Anything that helps businesses to benchmark their own security credentials, and enables customers to gauge their suppliers' levels of security, is a positive step in creating a more secure business environment."
