Google has integrated text messaging and email into Google Voice, allowing users of the beta service to send and receive SMS via email, according to reports on TechCrunch.
Google Voice provides users with one number for all mobile and fixed-line phones. The service is currently available to a limited number of US customers of GrandCentral, a phone management company acquired by Google in 2007.
The search firm has not yet given an indication of when Google Voice will be launched in the UK.
According to reports, the company is under pressure to deploy the service in Europe which, unlike the US, has adopted the habit of making the calling party pay for the call. Google could not immediately be reached to confirm such claims.
Google Voice was launched in March and is free to use. The service allows users to combine mobile, fixed, business and home lines in a single phone number, which they can choose.
