Anger and frustration caused by IT failures is the primary cause of 'work rage', according to a survey commissioned by IT company Connect Support Services.
In the study of 1,200 people, 80 per cent of the respondents complained that IT problems made their days more stressful. And 84 per cent said that IT failures had a negative effect on productivity.
Women are more likely than men to say that technical blips caused them a 'great deal' of stress, while men are more inclined to blame IT problems on their company rather than themselves or suppliers.
But what really angers workers is the time it takes to solve the problem.
Adam Afriyie, chief executive at Connect Support Services, blamed a lack of professionalism in the IT services industry, which the study showed as letting workers down more than any other service industry in a work environment.
"The IT services industry has yet to reach a sufficient level of professionalism. The majority of small and medium sized businesses rely on 'Bob the IT guy' who takes his time and charges by the hour," he said.
