HP and VMware have joined forces to develop a server management tool which will allow IT staff to administer hardware-bound and virtualised server systems. The application combines HP's Insight Control component with VMware's vCenter Server software.
Insight Control will allow administrators to use a single console to manage the physical hardware and the virtualised machines inside a server.
HP and VMware hope that the new software will ease the management burden on IT staff as more companies combine traditional servers and databases with virtualised systems.
Mark Potter, senior vice president and general manager for infrastructure software and blades at HP, said: "Customers need a technology infrastructure that accelerates their business and one that addresses the issue of rising management costs.
"HP and VMware have a shared vision of providing the best environment to improve administrator productivity, resource utilisation and time-to-market for technology services to support business demand."
The companies plan to bring the new tool to market early next year. Price is expected to be around $349 (£216) per server licence.
