Blinkx claims that its video search engine can filter out illegal clips and inappropriate material

Video search engine Blinkx has unveiled its Remote service designed to help surfers find episodes of their favourite TV shows.

The new service brings together programmes from all the major providers with online content, including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Five.

Blinkx Remote makes it easier for viewers to find shows and have the content streamed from the best provider, rather than resorting to potentially illegal sources which may have only part of the episode.

"The online video landscape has changed dramatically over the past year," said Suranga Chandratillake, founder and chief executive of Blinkx.

"What was once the domain of short-form, user-generated material has become the realm of premium television.

"It is a tremendous source of news and entertainment for consumers, but the content is spread across myriad sites belonging to national broadcasters and media giants."

Blinkx claims that its patented video search engine can filter out video spam, illegal clips and inappropriate material.

Furthermore, Blinkx Remote users will be able to sign up to receive alerts through RSS or email when a new show is posted.

Blinkx Remote is available now in the UK. A US version is in the works, but no date has been confirmed.
