Check Point launches ZoneAlarm Extreme Security

ZoneAlarm Extreme Security includes virtualised browser technology

Internet security firm Check Point has unveiled a new version of its ZoneAlarm all-in-one security suite that adds its ForceField virtualised browser technology into the existing collection of firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware and anti-spam.

ZoneAlarm Extreme Security also includes secure online backup and system maintenance tools, providing consumers and home workers with the ultimate protection for their computers, according to the company.

ZoneAlarm ForceField was launched as a standalone product by Check Point in May 2008 after it acquired Zone Labs in 2003. The software creates a virtualised environment in which a user's web browser runs, thereby isolating the rest of the PC from the internet session, and negating many online threats such as drive-by downloads and malware from infected sites.

"There has been a dramatic rise in attacks that target vulnerabilities in the web browser," said Jon Crotty, security research analyst at IDC.

"To help stay safe online while shopping and even browsing, consumers should use a strong, robust software security package that secures their computer and their web browser."

Check Point also released updated versions of ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite, ZoneAlarm Pro and ZoneAlarm Antivirus that are compatible with Vista 64-bit operating systems as well as XP and Vista 32-bit systems.

"Check Point focuses on creating technologies that help consumers stay ahead of online threats, earning us an unparalleled record for stopping web attacks," said Juliette Sultan, head of global marketing at Check Point.

Sultan believes that integrating ForceField into the ZoneAlarm suite rounds out the protection offered to consumers through the ZoneAlarm suite, despite the growing complexity of attacks from hackers and other fraudsters.

"ZoneAlarm Extreme Security was created to give consumers the peace of mind that their daily online activities and stored personal information are constantly protected from existing and future web attacks," she said.

Extreme Security also includes provision for online backup, optional private key encryption, and PC tune-up and system maintenance tools.

ZoneAlarm Extreme Security runs only on Windows XP and upwards, and can be purchased now from the ZoneAlarm web site for $69.95 (£48) for a three-user licence.
