The FortiGate-1240B has 40 Gigabit Ethernet ports

Fortinet has launched a new security appliance for enterprises which it claims includes the fastest firewall and virtual private network (VPN) system on the market.

The FortiGate-1240B has 40Gbit/s firewall and 16Gbit/s IPSec VPN throughputs, as well as the highest port density and best price/performance ratio among products in its class, according to the firm.

"Our product strategy is to deliver the highest benefit that technology has to offer at the best possible performance and price, whether for networks of several hundred or several thousand," said Michael Xie, chief technical officer at Fortinet.

"Cyber criminals target small and mid-sized enterprises just as they do the largest, so we have applied the same high-technology philosophy to our mid-enterprise products as we have our highest enterprise products, which give customers the most effective line of defence for their individual networks."

The new device has 40 Gigabit Ethernet ports, 38 of which are ASIC-accelerated, and six storage module slots to allow up to 384GB of storage.

Application changes have also been included so that the device supports IPv6, improved logging and endpoint network access control.
