McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator allows organisations to manage all security products from one place

Security giant McAfee has upgraded its ePolicy Orchestrator security management platform to offer improved automation, manageability and scalability.

The software allows large organisations with complex security infrastructures to manage all security products from one place.

EPolicy Orchestrator 4.5 now includes a new multi-tiered architecture to allow companies to manage hundreds of thousands of devices from a single server, and offers load balancing and failover support, plus multi-server awareness, said McAfee's senior vice president of product and solutions marketing, Matt Fairbanks.

Also new is a highly customisable web-based interface which can provide immediate end-to-end visibility into an organisation's security infrastructure.

Improvements to the product's automation framework, meanwhile, mean that security staff can develop policies to automate protection based on user profiles, rather than merely by system or device, according to McAfee.

Norm Fjeldheim, chief information officer at Qualcomm, said that his firm is seeing an increase in sophisticated attacks.

"I'm interested in getting better tools to deal with this," he added. " Intellectual property and data is core to our business, and we need to be able to protect that."

McAfee chief executive Dave DeWalt agreed that the threat landscape is undergoing rapid change.

"New types of viruses and worms and threats have really begun to elevate in the world," he said. "The goal is a very open, very scalable, high protection, optimised environment for our customers and partners."
