Fujitsu has launched a tool designed to help companies migrate quickly and easily to new operating systems such as Windows 7.
DeskView Advanced Migration is part of Fujitsu's Managed Workplace product, and allows organisations to remain operational while data is transferred to new platforms, the company claimed.
Fujitsu said that the recession had left many organisations running software approaching its end-of-life date, such as Windows XP, and that there is a growing need to ensure that migrations go smoothly as companies start spending again.
DeskView Advanced Migration supports Microsoft Outlook, Office, Google Chrome, Opera and Skype, and can migrate general operating system settings such as favourites, backgrounds and desktop layouts. The package also allows users to back up their old system by creating a virtual image.
Joe Duran, product manager for Fujitsu's server business, claimed that the company is using the tool to upgrade its own systems.
"We are realising for ourselves the benefits of Managed Workplace solutions for our own infrastructure, and are reaping the benefits of seamless conversion of our Workplace systems to Windows 7," he said.
Fujitsu has also launched DeskView Load, a tool designed to handle all hardware dependencies and remove the need for driver evaluation during migrations, helping to save costs during roll-outs and reinstallations.
DeskView Load is also part of the Managed Workplace range, and does not require any rollout centre to be used. No pricing is available at present.
