Chipping children is being advocated in the US as a way of preventing parents from losing their kids.
The idea has come from US company Applied Digital Solutions (ADS), which argues that implanting chips with Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) technology could be used to find lost children.
The company says the device, which is the size of a wristwatch-face and could eventually be made even smaller, could be used to find kidnapped children, locate young kids who wander away from parents and track teens who participate in risky behaviour.
ADS spokesman Matthew Cossolotto said: "With an implanted device, the child doesn't have to remember to wear it. It can't be lost or stolen or stripped away. And it's totally concealed."
The company is set to launch a prototype later this year. In the meantime, ADS already manufactures two similar products: VeriChip and Digital Angel.
The plan has the backing of the host of TV crime programme America's Most Wanted, John Walsh, whose six-year-old son was kidnapped and killed in 1981.
Speaking recently on the TV show Larry King Live, Walsh said the chip could be used to locate kidnapped or missing children. In a worst-case scenario it could even serve to find a missing child's body.
But the chipping idea is less popular with parental groups, who think it better to teach children to monitor their own behaviour rather than trying to keep track of them 24 hours a day.
Do you agree?
Why would parents object
This is a wonderful idea. Sure we teach kids what not to do but as we know most kids panic or are not aware of the danger. Having a chip could be the difference between life and death. To be able to locate a child minutes after an abduction would be wonderful. Now you have to wait to identify the body.I am all for it.
I would be willing to work with this company to promote these chips in the school. I worked as a supervisor in the district attornys office for 17 years I know what happens when a child isn't found within minutes I am a grandparent raising my grandchildren and times are not like when my childen were young. I wish your company the best of luck. All parents should want this chip for their children. They certainly get them for their lost pets.

How do we get them !!!!!
This is a wonderful idea...I am the mother of two children who are Three and Four years old, and like any parent I want ot protect them as best as I can.
I have recently been glued to the televison watching and praying for the safe return of Madaline Mccann who has been abducted in the Algarve. This has now brought this to the forefront on my mind, and I am determined to find a way to help parents find a safe way to protect their children from this kind of crime.
Please please if any one knows of any way in which this is possible I would love to hear from you !!

A good reason for chipping kids
Implanting RFID based microchips into children to keep them from getting lost sounds like a good reason, but I wonder if there are other agendas that are sort of hidden. The ultimate end of this kind of technology would be the forced micro chipping of all humans, which is clearly predicted in the Bible as we see the beast government causes all people to take the mark of the beast.

messed up!
wow, something that starts out as a good idea will soon be used for social control and political power. Protection is a good idea, but social control and corruption is difficult to monitor. First the children, then everyone, and then we are no longer free. This is frightening.
