A US Army Counterintelligence Agency report into Wikileaks, which recommends destroying the reputation of the whistleblower web site, has been published by, appropriately enough, Wikileaks.
The 2008 plan [PDF], which is marked as classified, identifies Wikileaks as "a potential force protection, counterintelligence, OPSEC, and INFOSEC threat to the US Army" and details some of the documents that have appeared on the site, including a manual for prisoner handling from Guantanamo Bay and a map of Abu Ghraib prison.
“Wikileaks.org uses trust as a center of gravity by assuring insiders, leakers, and whistleblowers who pass information to Wikileaks.org personnel or who post information to the Web site that they will remain anonymous,” the report's executive summary concludes.
“The identification, exposure, or termination of employment of or legal actions against current or former insiders, leakers, or whistleblowers could damage or destroy this center of gravity and deter others from using Wikileaks.org to make such information public.”
The report suggests that foreign governments could be using the site to learn about US Army secrets and recommends training staff on more secure control of secret information, as well as investigating if current staff members are leaking to the site.
“As two years have passed since the date of the report, with no Wikileaks' source exposed, it appears that this plan was ineffective,” said Wikileaks.
As an odd justificaton for the plan, the report claims that "several foreign countries including China, Israel, North Korea, Russia, Vietnam, and Zimbabwe have denounced or blocked access to the Wikileaks.org web site''. The report provides further justification by enumerating embarrassing stories broken by Wikileaks
Wikileaks has broken many important stories over the past few years, despite being beset with legal action and a chronic shortage of funds.
Do you agree?
not right
There is a point that the US military can go to, and then they cross the line. They need to realize that they have finally crossed the line. What happened here is a tragedy, and the army is worried about their reputation. It just goes to show how messed up our world is.

Did you really think ww3 through properly
What we need to do is draw the line, not cross it. How much longer can this go on for. War is primitive its time to do are selves a favour, Why use brawl when we have all got brains. There is enough technology to bring us out of the dark ages. where coated thick in our own blood and our ozone is swimming with it. I think it is really sad that we are all leading to our own demise and where all watching it. But when it all does finally come to an end and you are one of the lucky few to be stinking rich just think. What are you going to spend all your money on. derrr. didn't think of that one. Its all been blown up. all you will be able to eat is a feast from the toxic wasteland and interbreed like rats. That's not progressing that's just mutating. crouched up together sweating for years in underground bunkers eating canned hot dogs. wake up. There's two choices go to hell or learn to get on with each other and get with the green program "The full program." Stop using any excuse just to drop the bomb.
geeesh. We are our destiny lets shape it.
