Origin Storage has introduced a range of encrypted hard drives designed as secure storage for users that need to carry data around with them.
Available immediately, the Data Locker secure storage devices are external hard drives with a USB connection. Access is controlled via a six- to 18-digit PIN that must be keyed in via a touch screen on the unit.
Each Data Locker uses a built-in security chip to seamlessly encrypt and decrypt data using the Advanced Encryption Standard. Data Locker Pro drives support 128-bit encryption, while Data Locker Enterprise models are protected by a 256-bit key.
For extra protection in the event of loss or theft, each Data Locker can detect a brute force attack and trigger a 'self-destruct' sequence to prevent the data being accessed. There is also a one-touch erase function for rapid redeployment, which requires an admin password.
Data Locker drives are available in capacities of 160GB, 320GB and 500GB, and cost from £199, £225 and £275 respectively. The drives support computers running Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
