LogMeIn has added support for Intel's vPro and Remote PC Assist technologies into its remote control tool for helpdesk staff, extending its ability to reach out to users needing assistance with their computer.
Available immediately, the updated LogMeIn Rescue enables support technicians to remotely connect to a user's computer via the internet, even if the operating system will not start.
However, this particular capability depends on the user having a desktop or laptop with the latest version of Intel's vPro technology, which is built into the chipset and Bios firmware below the level of the operating system. LogMeIn said that it is the first remote support vendor to provide vPro integration.
Other new capabilities include support for multiple helpdesk staff to collaborate on a complex support issue, and instant chat to allow the technician and end user to communicate without requiring any pre-installed software.
Meanwhile, enhanced monitoring allows a manager to view live support sessions for quality-of-service purposes, and technicians can now securely share their desktop to provide training.
"By enabling on-demand chat, collaboration and remote control, LogMeIn Rescue helps organisations offer an enhanced remote support experience to their customers, on and off the local area network and across computing platforms," said LogMeIn vice president for product development Kevin Bardos.
LogMeIn Rescue runs on Windows PCs only, but can be used to support end users with Apple Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5 systems. It can also be used to support smartphones.
Pricing starts at $99 (£70) per technician per month, and LogMeIn offers a free 14-day trial.
