In another blow for the Blu-ray format, Samsung, Sony and Pioneer have all pushed back the release dates for their DVD players.
Players from Samsung and Pioneer will not hit the shops until September, while Sony claimed that its BDP-S1 Blu-ray player will be out in August.
The Blu-ray format has been delayed a number of times, as vendors have tried to keep up with the rival HD-DVD format that is already available.
The news comes as Microsoft's European Xbox chief Neil Thompson attacked the delayed PlayStation 3 console, which will play Blu-ray discs.
"I think Sony has missed the ball in that the PS3 is not really a next-generation games player, it's a next-generation DVD player," Thompson told the Spong games review website.
"That's great news for Microsoft, because we think we make the next-generation games console."

Before you post articles with false information, you ought to check your facts. Samsung will be releasing on JUNE 25th in the US as scheduled. In Korea in July and in Europe in September. This was the strategy of Samsung all along. Moreover, Samsung will be releasing in quantities that are greater than Toshiba's launch, and this is just Samsung we are talking about. We have Philips, Sony, Pioneer, and Sharp that will be following shortly.
The release of the PS3 will be the final death blow of millions of Blu-ray capable units by December 31st with only a price of $499 to $599. Also, considering that 7 out of the 8 major Hollywood studios support Blu-ray, the outlook for Blu-ray is just peachy.
