Apple issues 10.5.5 Leopard update

Apple has released an update for OS X Leopard

Apple has posted an update to its OS X 10.5 Leopard release. The 10.5.5 update includes a number of security and stability fixes.

Among the 26 security patches are fixes for vulnerabilities in QuickDraw and ImageIO which could allow an attacker to remotely execute code on a targeted machine.

The stability fixes include improved iPhone sync performance, faster Spotlight searching and what Apple terms "extensive graphics enhancements". Fixes were also issued for Address Book, Mail and Time Machine.

Apple has also released an updated version of the Remote Desktop component for administrators and clients which contains stability and security fixes. That update will be available for OS X 10.3.9 and 10.4 users as well as 10.5.

The updates are the latest in a busy two weeks for Apple. After releasing new iPods on Tuesday, the company had to issue updates for iTunes, QuickTime, and the iPhone, as well as an additional fix for an issue in the Windows version of iTunes 8.

Users can obtain the updates through the Apple Software Update program or from the company's support site.
