Visto is to buy Motorola's Good Technology Group for an undisclosed sum

Visto, a provider of mobile push and synchronisation platforms, today announced that it is to enter the secure mobile messaging market with the acquisition of Good Technology from handset giant Motorola.

The acquisition will enable Visto to extend the range of services it provides to government and enterprise customers to include wireless messaging, mobile virtual private network data access, device management and handheld security.

"This transaction marks another important milestone in Visto's emergence as a worldwide leader for mobile access to applications and content, especially messaging and collaboration data," said Brian Bogosian, chief executive of Visto.

"As a result of this transaction, Visto will now provide customers in over 100 countries with an open, robust and secure mobile experience for enterprise customers on over 400 different mobile devices."

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed, and the parties intend to close the deal by the end of February.

Motorola, which acquired Good Technology in November 2006, said that the deal would allow it to concentrate on producing "business-critical applications, secure management platforms and mobility services" which help users to streamline business-critical processes.
