Texas Instruments will this week demonstrate its Hollywood mobile DTV single-chip solution at the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona.
TI's DTV1000 Hollywood single-chip solution and OMAP2420 device uses the DVB-H mobile TV standard and can achieve 1.5 second average channel switching time, 30+ channels of live TV programming, battery life of 3.5+ hours, and up to 30fps delivery speed, the company claims.
The offering is targeted at mass market phones. "TI's family of Hollywood single-chip mobile broadcasting solutions have hit the market at the right time to intersect with DVB-H commercial service launches coming in late 2006-early 2007 around the world," said Marc Cetto, general manager of TI's mobile connectivity solutions.
There are understood to be more than 19 DVB-H network trials concluded or underway around the globe, including in Australia, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the UK, the US and Taiwan.
It is expected that DVB-H commercial services will be deployed in Europe by the end of 2006, and that the DVB-H infrastructure in Europe, the US and Asia will be built out and ready for widespread deployments by the end of 2007.
