Although most modern operating systems offer you the facility to work across multiple monitors, it’s impractical for most scenarios. Our cramp work desks simply lack the space to enable us to have two large screens. For this reason, we tend to be given one larger screen, maximising the space and location on our desk.
There are ways to improve our productivity with the one monitor. For instance, in the latest OS X there is a function to use multiple desktop configurations, so you can open applications on their own desktop and then quickly switch between these desktops using a key configuration. This means you could have your desktop publishing tool open on one desktop and then your image editor open on another. If you need to open and edit the occasional image, simply move across to the other desktop and then move back when you are finished.
Opening another desktop enables you to launch an application full screen. You could have your burning software open full-screen on desktop 2, whilst desktop 1 is used for your regular apps, such as your browser, email client and so on.
Desktops is a brand new virtual desktop manager from Microsoft that enables you to open up to four desktops and then quickly move between them.
Do you agree?

How Long Has It Taken...
Want to know how long it's taken M$ to do this?
On OSX they brought it in to compete with Linux but Linux has hadd this ability for many years, possibly most in this century or decade. I use this on my 10" netbook. I wonder how they'd go running Win7 with 4 desktops on a netbook?
It wouldn't run.

Adds little
I don't think it adds any value to the OS, even if it did, this desktop application is lacking. For one, if you change a wallpaper on you desktop that is loaded, it will change it for all. If you put something on the desktop and delete it, it does this for all. Would be great if you could easily re size these desktops and fit them side by side. Also, I found no way to unload the app quickly if you no longer want it enabled. I either had to log off, tried to find in task manager, couldn't, but anyway, there was no right click or any other option to simply shut it off. That is not what I was looking for and do use other apps for virtual desktops but if this could be improved upon it would be great.
