This completely free security suite will give you better protection than basic anti-virus support, but it's still not going to give you ultimate protection against every threat

Manufacturer: Comodo

Buy a new PC and you’ll often find it ships pre-installed with an anti-virus client. Sometimes you receive more than basic anti-virus support, but the first thing you need to do is go out and find more extensive security software to make sure your new machine is protected against every possible threat.
For this reason, various security developers have resorted to giving away more extensive free software. By combining anti-virus, anti-spyware and a firewall, Comodo have bundled a few of their free applications and published these as an ‘Internet Security’ bundle.
Comodo Internet Security is a free suite of security tools designed to protect you against the majority of threats you may encounter when you surf the Internet.
This basic Internet Security suite gives you widespread protection, but Comodo also publish a Professional version with additional features such as remote access for removing threats that have infected your PC and have stopped you being able to boot in to your PC.
Do you agree?

Can't Beat It For Free
Been using i for 8 weeks on my laptop running XP,Firewall is top notch alerting me when ever something is about to be changed,Antivirus auto updates daily and informed me of mail ware on the system as soon as it was installed and was removed with a couple of clicks,For a free security suite it's excellent.

A brilliant suite
Have used Comodo's separate av and firewall previously but only just discovered they now combine them into one integrated security suite. Installed it this week & I have to say I'm very impressed. CIS must be unique in being a free security suite, and I prefer integrated suites over separate av & firewall apps from different developers -- so this is perfect for me. CIS also uses less ram than most of the competition, and it shows when Windows is loading. I'm able to start using Windows much sooner than was the case when I had eset smart security installed.

absolute junk
Ground my internet connection to a screeching halt while disabling my e-mail & browser software, along with most other internet related software. Trying to wrench this thing out of my system was a treat, as my software deletion program couldn't delete 3 parts of it that had to be killed manually. Went back to the Kerio product I was using which was strong solid & reliable.

A really good piece of security software
I have tried CIS different versions on and off over the past few years as well as most other security apps. Kept leaving CIS because although it was promising it was still immature and plenty of issues, essentially was still in beta mode. With other suites such as ESET, Kaspersky, PC tools, Webroot, etc, etc, I have had various quite major issues and / or major performance hits. So I came back to CIS version 3.10 out of desperation almost and I am now really pleasantly surprised.
It is a really effective and stable piece of software that has caught some nasty malware when transferring files from other users on USB sticks for example. Most of all, it is low on resources on my few years old but critically important business small laptop running CPU at 1.4 Ghz Centrino and 2GB RAM.
The only bit of learning really needed, which is important, is to get your head around "my trusted zones" and in respect of stealthing ports, but the instructions are really good to follow. For non-tech users there is a recommended setting that gives maximum security and no alerts.
A really excellent feature is the ability to opt for Comodo's secure DNS service, it really works effectively. If you are not aware, Comodo is not some "fly by night" company or newcomer, they are a major internet security company similar to Verisign and provide services mainly to companies and have only in the past few years started to move into desktop security software for both business and home.
I would happily pay normal commercial prices for this software and it is hard to believe that it is free! They do this to attract users to have a look at their other security products, but there are no pop ups or other annoying ways of doing this.
Great work Comodo.

I made a Big Mistake trying this suite out
Since I don't like the Bloated 2 year old version of CA's Security Suite that I get for free with Time Warner Road Runner Turbo, I've tried several of the other antivirus Program's, Suite's and Stand alone software that are on the market.
I made a Big mistake when I downloaded and installed this sorry excuse for a security suite. While the firewall stopped most of the bad stuff from getting thru, its way to aggravating with all the notices and popups, And after only 4 days of use I got slammed by a virus that set off a real nice batch of code that literally had me with no control over my Windows 7 Rig other than to hit the reset button on top or pull the plug and then when I turned it back on, the same thing would happen, I got to go to web pages I've never seen and all with out touching my mouse or keyboard, My screen showed that I was downloading stuff that I had no clue about, I was locked out of System Restore, I had no access to my Hard drive or Registry and when I'd try and run "Comode's" AV scan it would pop up a window and say that function is disabled. I tried to download and run Panda Scan & Mcafee's AV scan but the download and install would lock up my computer every time.
and the really suck ass thing is I have not surfed to any different websites than I've ever been to before. This "Comode" of an Security suite got me tagged by a drive by trojan or virus somehow and after 2 days of fightig with ot to get control of my PC back I finally had to bite the bullet and do a complete reformat and I lost a ton of pictures from the May NASCAR Race at Charlotte, a bunch of Camcorder movies that I took of my hot neigbor nude sunbathing by my pool and a ton more of music.
I wish I had done more research before I tried this piece of garbage, I now have found out that PC World Mag gives Comode's Internet Suite the lowest rating of all the AV Suites it tested.
and I second the motion. If I could find the sucker that wrote this junk I'd flush him right down his Comode.
And Chris Wiles you should be ashamed of your self promoting this piece of garbage, normally you reviews and promo's are right on target, but you blew it asssociating yourself with this junk. Hey Chris I dare you to install this crap on your personal computer.......nooooooo, why not ? scared ? please try this stuff out before you promote it.

Not good
Looks good, but I tried 7 times to install it on to my XP comuter and everytime it locked up. On the 8th time it installed but I didn't trust it by then so I updated my Kaspersy instead. Shame really 'cos I wanted to try a free programme for a change but to no avail.

Great software - but could create confusion with some users
I have installed this software on quite a few computers now and it works well. 2 features of it are likely to create confusion with some though, defense+ & sandbox, which throw up loads of pop up warnings/notifications BUT you can easily disable &/or change settings with both.
Remnants of previous security software haven't been a problem for me but depending on what you had is always best to fully remove the old ones.
