Music Factory

Although designed for individuals with learning difficulties or disabilities, Music Factory can be fun for children too.

It lets you create music via a symbol-based interface, which can be controlled using a switch (for those with disabilities).

The software has two modes: Real-time and Compose. In the former, the music is altered on-the-fly, but the latter allows you to sequence each instrument first, forcing you to think more about the music you're creating.

Compositions can be saved once created, for evaluating later.

Melodies, riffs and rhythmic patterns are provided, all split into eight different styles, including Reggae, Blues and Techno. Six instruments are on offer, in any possible combination.

All the usual musical elements can be altered, including changing the tempo to suit your mood, and selecting a combination of chords to use.
