This is the software publisher’s description.
Hard disks are by far the slowest component in your computer, particularly if you’re a laptop user with a 2.5” drive. CPU and memory work much faster than hard disks because they do not have moving parts. Therefore fragmented disks often become a bottleneck of the system performance.
Besides causing slowdowns, fragmentation makes the hard drive disk heads move frequently when reading files which leads to freeze-ups and system crashes. It is important to keep your disks defragmented and optimised as much as possible.
Disk fragmentation leads to system slowdowns, PC crashes, slow startup and shutdown and sometimes to system failures.
Auslogics Disk Defrag is designed for fast optimisation of today's modern hard disks. Get the maximum performance out of your expensive hardware investment.
This v3 release now ships with a number of new optimisation features within an enhanced user interface.
Do you agree?
Much Faster Than XP's Defrag
This software is a lot faster than XP's defrag, and does as good a job in my opinion. Speed is important where I work, I don't have time to wait for XP's defrag to run. This software is free and does a great job.

Not a disk defragger
This is a fine little program that is quick because it does NOT defrag the disk, rather it defrags the files on the disk leaving them largely where they are. The result is that when it is done you still have a disk with files scattered all over it. The files will be all in one piece, and that's not a bad thing, but the disk is still a mess. The Vista defragger is far more sophisticated including placing most used files on the fastest part of the disk.

The defragger
I love this. I now have Vista and use regularly to keep my drive defragmented and my system in top condition. Recommended!

Defrag this defrag that....wonderful red, blue and green colours
I have to agree with the last post! If you want a sophisticated defragment tool use the Vista default tool or perhaps one of the commercial tools available on the market. Use common sense and acknowledge the fact that there are hundreds of freeware so called defragment tools circulating on the Internet claiming to be "better" or "faster" than the Vista default. Each and everyone of these so called free defragmenters have a nice user interface with lots of colours etc. but thats about all you get....

Use this at your peril
I used this program - well, the latest version of it - and lost every entry in my start menu. Every group had nothing in it so I couldn't even get to system restore to restore it to a working time. I had to do a full system recovery. It's damaging.
vnunet.com comment: we disagree. It's fantastic software. However, ANY defrag software can cause damage to your drive, which is why they say you should defrag without any other apps running in the background.

Please respond!
Would Jay Thornton kindly respond to the post by "Wandering" about defragmenting files rather than the disk. This is fundamental to the process and the needs of Windows users everywhere. I would also like to know if this product can run as a scheduled task, with the user logged off.

Lifesaver!
For reasons only known to Microsoft. Windows XP defragmenter only goes so far, then stops. This is brilliant! In fact the new version defrags all files, the previous version skipped one
