This free version of HDClone can be used to make an exact copy (or clone) of a hard disk (IDE/ATA/SATA).
A clone can come in useful in many ways, such as transferring your setup to a new PC (or hard drive), or making a backup of your stable setup.
Before you can use HDClone you'll need to create boot disk (CD or floppy), but full instructions on how to do this are included. This is then used to boot the PC in order to begin the cloning process.
Once you've created a boot disk, you simply restart your PC from this bootable disk and follow the on-screen instructions.
Copying speed is limited to around 300MB/min, but this isn't really a problem; just set it to do its job and go off and do something else.
Note the free version can only backup/clone to a larger drive.

Not so great
I've used the HDclone tool to upgrade the HD in my parents PC. After waiting 40 minutes for the cloned HD, I reboot, and than get a bunch of HD consistency errors. Windows XP corrects them, and then never boots again! I've tried this twice, maybe the software doesn't like XP, or long filenames?
I'm glad it was free, I would be very upset if I had paid for this software.

OK FOR FREE
i m using at the minute is working ok but will take 5 hours to finish 20 gs of hd if you dont mind waiting its ok for free

XXClone
is a much better tool (only for XP if I remember properly)
Its free, faster,and makes your clone bootable (!)

Great Stuff
I tried XXClone because of the earlier comment, and couldn't get it to work.
HDClone did exactly what I wanted - first time. It would have been even easier, too, if I had read the instructions first. (A PDFis included in the download.)
It took 35 mins. to clone my 40GB drive (which was just 25% full; I had removed the data, leaving only the OS and basic programs).
Thanks Computeractive for the heads up. I have now revivied a laptop which I was on the verge of junking!
