Logitech Z560

Pump up the volume with this superb five-piece speaker system.

Jason Denwood

The new five-piece, THX-certified Z-560 4.1 surround sound speaker system from Logitech produces a claimed 400 watts of power via four satellites and a large solid wood sub-woofer.

It outputs a very clear sound that copes superbly with both bass and treble when playing games, listening to music or watching DVD-Videos.

The Z-560's satellite speakers are a well designed with a slick back finish and provide crisp mid- and high-range tones with a frequency response of 35Hz to 20kHz.

As well as desk mounting, the aluminium stands on the satellites can be fixed to a wall. Home stereo-style connectors - a 3.5mm headphone jack, as well as front and rear channel inputs - allow for easy connection as well as cable extensions.

The Z-560's sound system is controlled via a desktop control unit, which also houses the main volume, bass and fader options, and a switch that allows you to convincingly take a two-channel stereo source and give the impression that it's actually surround sound using M3D Matrix technology from Logitech.

The inclusion of a remote control would have been a nice touch, and a control deck built into the front speaker - as seen in company's Z-340 and Z-540 models - might appeal to those who are already struggling for space on an overcrowded desk.

However, priced at just £199.99 (inc. VAT), you can forgive Logitech for the Z-560's foibles and simply sit back and listen to the crystal clear sound that the system delivers.
