Microsoft has delayed the launch of its BackOffice 2000 server suite upgrade for Windows 2000.
The company had originally said it would ship the upgrade in the second quarter of this year, but last week admitted that the launch will not happen until the end of 2000.
BackOffice 2000, which incorporates Exchange 2000, SQL Server 2000, Host Integration Server 2000 - code-named Babylon - and the next version of Proxy server, is seen as a central product for corporate users wanting to upgrade to Windows 2000.
Analysts said that the delay could further hinder the already slow take-up of Windows 2000. Forrester Research analyst Carl Howe said: We are basically negative on Windows 2000 sales this year, so we don't see the delay of BackOffice having too much of an effect."
To prevent delays in users upgrading to Windows 2000, Microsoft unveiled a pricing promotion last week, that allows users to upgrade to individual BackOffice components as they become available, rather than waiting for the whole suite to appear.
