Car manufacturer Nissan has stepped up a gear and turbo-charged network software at its Sunderland plan. The company has introduced a mobile data network that revs up the speed of its distribution process. Mobile data firm Three X Communication's collection and delivery software manages the distribution process, down to the type and number of pallets to be collected from each supplier. Full details of the delivery are registered on the Janus radio data terminals as parts are offloaded and any discrepancies highlighted. This information is then sent over the spread spectrum radio network to the central operations database - so all parts stored at the depot can be pinpointed within seconds. Hand-held computers provide real-time data communication between the vehicles and depots.
