Acucorp has developed technology that allows firms to give their Cobol applications a new lease of life by transferring them to 64-bit Linux environments.

The company said that its AcucCobol-GT development system for 64-bit SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 on IBM eServer zSeries servers will allow companies to port enterprise Cobol code to all IBM eServers running Linux, including 32- and 64-bit Linux on Power as well as 32- and 64-bit Linux on zSeries.

"The marriage of 64-bit SuSE Linux Enterprise Server 8 and IBM's 64-bit zSeries platform combines the traditional strengths of the latest IBM mainframe servers with the flexibility and open standards of SuSE Linux," said Cameron Jenkins, Acucorp's vice president of strategic partnerships.

"The availability of our 64-bit extend solutions in this environment means that customers can immediately deploy their proven, cost-effective legacy systems and data while enjoying the higher scalability, stability and reliability offered by the mainframe environment."
