Solid state storage systems vendor Texas Memory Systems is looking to build a channel in the UK.

The company builds the RamSAN range of solid-state storage devices and a line of high-performance digital signal processors, but does not have any resellers in the UK so far.

Woody Hutsell, executive vice-president of Texas Memory Systems, said: "Speed is what sells these kind of systems; high-speed memory with safe backup. Because the memory is all solid state you get high throughput."

The RamSAN range includes standard SDRam storage that supports eight 1GB and 2GB Fibre Channel ports at 3Gbps.

The rack mounted units come with dual power supplies and backup onto an internal disk array. Backup onto Raid is also available.

But Tony Ruane, sales director of storage reseller Redstor, warned: "It's a very niche market. Solid state has been around for a couple of years but has never really taken off. The market is after low-cost volume, not more expensive speedy storage."

Texas Memory Systems started out producing high-speed memory for military systems. It recently signed a $4.7m deal with the US government to provide the largest solid state storage system in the world, at 2.5 terabytes.
